MAKING SEPARATION AND DIVORCE
LESS CHALLENGING
Many people going through separation and divorce hold off on getting legal advice. We know that’s because there is a genuine concern that engaging a family lawyer early on seems like you might be setting yourself up for a big legal bill.
In reality however, the opposite is true.
In our many years of helping people through separation and divorce and parenting and property negotiations, we regularly witness what can go wrong when people negotiate with their former partner before getting legal advice.
In the event they do get to an agreement, when it comes time for them to see a family lawyer to wrap everything up, that is when they learn about any implications their agreement creates – to the detriment of themselves and/or their children, in the short or longer-term.
What seems like a wise decision at the time then needs to be renegotiated, and that is often where things get messy. More stress, more expense and sometimes a years-long, considerably more expensive process.
At the very least, we encourage people to get initial legal advice so you can learn what you should know before agreeing to, or acting on, anything.
What our lawyers know about family law and the processes, and from assisting thousands of people just like you, we can see what you can’t.
Talking to us early can significantly reduce the likelihood of the additional and unnecessary challenges that too many people find themselves burdened with.

Learn more about separation and divorce here.
PARENTING AND CHILDREN
If you require support to finalise your parenting arrangements, or negotiate interim arrangements until you are able to reach an agreement, we can assist.
If you have been unable to reach an agreement about the terms of your shared care arrangements, or where you may be seeking sole responsibility, our team can assist with negotiations, mediation, applications to the Court and Court representation if required.
CHILD SUPPORT
Advice and information on your rights and obligations in relation to providing financial support for your children.
In the event you wish for additional expenses to be considered that fall outside the scope of child support assessment, such as extra curricular activities or medical expenses, you may require a private Binding Child Support Agreement.
PROPERTY SETTLEMENT/DIVISION OF ASSETS
We advise on the process of dividing assets after a marriage or the end of a de facto relationship. Learn more about what is involved in the division of your assets here.
SPOUSAL MAINTENANCE
Spousal maintenance is financial support provided by one party to the other on a short term basis, until a property settlement is finalised. Our team provides advice, planning and assistance in relation to the negotiation and provision of spousal maintenance.
PRENUPTIAL AGREEMENTS / BINDING FINANCIAL AGREEEMENTS
When you wish to formalise an agreement between you and your partner to determine how you will divide your finances and assets in the event your marriage or de facto relationship was to end.
Binding Financial Agreements (BFA’s) can be drafted prior to a marriage (or de facto relationship), during the marriage or relationship, or after separation (when embarking on a subsequent relationship).
De Facto Relationships
Our team provides advice and assistance for individuals embarking on a new relationship, currently in a de facto relationship and those going through separation.
While most elements of a de facto relationship breakdown are the same as married couples, there are some time limitations that are unique to de facto relationships. More information can be found here.
PARENTING AND PROPERTY MEDIATION
Our Principal lawyer, Walid Kalouche has practiced as a family dispute resolution provider for over 10 years and is sought after for his family dispute mediation services.
Mediation is a dispute resolution method designed to help you avoid the expense of a legal battle and keep things as civil as possible.

COURT REPRESENTATION
If any family law matter proceeds to Court, our team can assist. We provide exceptional support and representation for our clients with family law matters.
While it’s legal to do so, you should avoid representing yourself in Family Law Court. When you engage a family law solicitor like those on our team, we explain the process, learn about your needs, give you insight into the possible outcomes, and work hard for you.
We understand that it can be difficult to make a decision about selecting the right people to help you which is why we would like to make it a bit easier for you. If you decide to work with us after your initial appointment, we will credit the cost of the appointment towards your fees, essentially making your initial consultation free.
This is our way of demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent service. We also offer fixed fees for some services as well as convenient payment options. Ask us for more information about these options in your first meeting. We look forward to assisting you.
BUSINESS INTERESTS
AND FAMILY LAW MATTERS
It is uncommon for experienced family lawyers to also have a deep knowledge and experience in business law. Our Principal, Walid Kalouche has committed his life to the study and application of both areas of law.
Do any of the following circumstances apply:
- Where you as a couple own a business jointly?
- Where you are the owner of a number of businesses?
- Interests in businesses that stand alone or linked through complex company and/or trust structures?
- Where you or your former partner or spouse has business interests in Australia and overseas?
- Where you or your former partner has interests in trusts and is a named or potential beneficiary?
- You or your former partner or spouse is expecting to receive an inheritance?
- Where you or your former partner or spouse believes the other has hidden assets to avoid an equitable distribution of assets?
We understand complex accounting documents and business structures. We also know the methods undertaken by some to hide assets and what to look for and know where to look to discover them.
Walid and his team understand how companies work, how trusts work and the unique considerations for property settlements where one or both parties have business interests.
We are acutely aware of the need for a smooth and timely property division so as not to disrupt the business operations. We help business owners seek Orders to help minimise the disruption that can so easily impact business owners, including business partners, during and after the Court proceedings.
When selecting the right source of legal advice, you need experienced family lawyers who have worked across the many areas of family law. Our family law team has that experience and insight.
“We engaged Walid for a complex family law matter. The CK team were professional, responsive, knowledgeable and caring. They tailored their engagement with us to meet our needs and resolved the matter with the utmost professionalism with a fair outcome. I would recommend the CK team for any family law matters. You can trust you will be treated with respect and understanding.”
